ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Harvey.

Founder of RVL Active. Fitness has been my thing for years — but what actually keeps me doing this is watching someone realise they’re capable of far more than they thought.

MY STORY

Why I took the gym out of personal training.

I started RVL Active because personal training should be simple. Too many people are put off before they even begin — by confusing plans, by promises that were never realistic, or by the quiet worry that they need to be fit enough first.

You don't need to be fit before you start. That is what the starting is for.

I’m a Level 3 qualified personal trainer and I work with people of every ability: complete beginners who want to feel healthier and more confident, and people who want to lose weight, build strength, or get properly fit again after a few years away from it.

My coaching is straightforward. We build a plan that fits your life, we focus on steady progress, and we build habits that stay put after the programme ends. No quick fixes and no fad diets — real results come from something tailored to you, backed by honest guidance and someone who notices when you’re doing well.

I’m a keen runner too, and I’ve completed a marathon in under four hours. I know exactly what a long-term goal asks of you: the commitment, the discipline, and the getting up on the mornings when you would rather not. I bring that same mindset into every programme I write — scaled to wherever you happen to be starting from.

When you train with RVL Active you are not just buying a workout. Every session has a purpose, every programme is built around your goals, and every win counts — including the small ones, which are usually the ones that matter most.

2010 — 2030

Twenty years. One bad car accident. Still going.

I won’t ask you to do anything I haven’t done myself — including starting again from nothing. This is the honest version.

2010

AGE 30

First 10K and first marathon — same year

The year it started properly. 5K in 15:17, 10K in 30:07, and a marathon best of 2:57.

MY FASTEST YEAR

2011

AGE 31

The car accident

A fractured and prolapsed disc at L5/S1. I was told not to run again.

THE TURNING POINT

2011

AGE 31

I refused to accept it

I’d had a PT for my back who was useless. So I wrote my own strength plan, rebuilt it, and ran again once I was fit enough.

WHY RVL EXISTS

2012

AGE 32

Married, and still training

Life moved on. The training stayed.

2015

AGE 35

My daughter was born

I eased off on purpose for a couple of years to be around for her. They’re not babies for long.

A CHOSEN PAUSE

2016

AGE 36

Swim coaching

Stroke, breathing and tumble turns. Got my 3K swim down to 52 minutes.

3K IN 52:00

2017–2018

AGE 37

Back on it properly

Running every day, strengthening my back, stretching. The rebuilt version, done consistently.

2019

AGE 39

My first triathlon

Swimming and cycling added to the mix — eight years after the accident.

2019–2025

AGE 39–45

Distance, over and over

Loads of 10Ks through to marathons across seven years. Not fast like 2010 — but consistent, which is the point.

2026

AGE 46

Qualified, and 26.2 miles

Level 3 Certificate in Planning & Delivering Personal Training. Manchester Marathon under four hours. RVL Active founded.

WHERE I AM NOW

by 2028

AGE 48

Level 4 qualification

Advanced programme design, and clients with specific medical or referral needs — the qualification I wish my own physio had held.

PLANNED

by 2030

AGE 50

Nutrition degree

Under consideration. Formal study would let me cover food properly, rather than working to the edge of a Level 3 remit.
